over the past six years he's been a story reading,
ball throwing,
ball catching,
rocket launcher assembling,
listening,
fun loving,
and generally beloved "uncle".
I'm not exactly the kind of girl whose planned her wedding for ages. sure I have a few ideas of things I'd like (sunflowers, craft beer, a dress with straps) but nothing too specific.
however i do know my four favorite girls will be a crucial part of the ceremony. though neela will need to work on her walking!

while bay area weather is just about always beautiful and perfect my hometown of ann arbor, michigan has some pretty intense winters.
i'm up in portlandia for a few days to see my favorite kindergartner and second grader. today we had a pretty awesome walk to school.
like many in the sewing world, i am on a constant quest to sew my stash. i've even gone so far as to proclaimed my desire to have less fabric all together, and consider myself am midway through a major two year fabric diet.
so today i'm going to share some of my favorite patterns for busting my stash.
I have quite a few fabric crushes these days. so indulge me for a minute.
(fair warning this is a lot of cotton + steel...and may end with a fabric purchase.)
fitz, who only recently developed the ability to get everywhere in the apartment, had been enjoying hiding amongst my patterns.
okay it's not a film, but v and I have been watching this Amazon series.
set in 1962 it's an alternative version of history in which natzi germany and japan had won World War Two. America fell and is now split into the japanese pacific states (west coast) and the greater natzi reich (east coast and mdwest) with a neutral zone in the middle (rockies). the main character juliana crain is a san francisco woman about my age who lives with her Jewish boyfriend until she joins the rebellion.
if i haven't stated it before, i'm officially jumping on the dropcloth sampler train because earlier this week i finished by second dropcloth sampler in a month.
I've previously spoken about my mission to sew all the oliver + s patterns. today I'm going to share how I came to acquire them.
origin story
when i was little my mother collected old nancy drew books. while other kids were reading goosebumps or the baby-sitters club, my sisters and i enjoyed nancy's adventures in her blue roadster.
after my fantastic experience with my first dropcloth sampler (more on that here and here) i was excited to try the second one my sister had sent me: the color wheel.

one of my favorite stores in the bay area, stonemountain & daughter, has declared 2016 to be the 'year of the indie pattern' and is kicking off #indiepatternmonth today. as a long time patron of independent pattern companies i love this.
let me say that again for emphasis: i love this.

being an aunt is pretty much the greatest thing ever.
i show up a few times a year with gummy bears and some new books, spend an hour building an awesome lego castle while drinking my sister's beer, let the kid stay up 15 minutes later than they normally would, then drop the mic because i just nailed it.

so i've talked about the two sewing resolutions i made myself in 2015: to have less fabric and to sew more knit fabric. a third resolution i'm giving myself for the rest of 2015 and for 2016 is to sew more patterns and styles.
